What to do if Amazon KDP is not accepting your bank
Amazon narrowed which bank accounts it will pay on 1 August 2026. If your dollar account details were refused, here is what the error means and how to fix it.

You paste your US account number and routing number into the Getting Paid page, press save, and Amazon will not take them. Or they save, and an email turns up weeks later: “Action required: You've entered a bank account not able to receive KDP payments.” No explanation, no account named. Nothing is wrong with your details. Amazon changed which bank accounts it will pay, and yours is on the wrong side of the change.
What Amazon changed on 1 August
Amazon runs a Payment Service Provider Program. Its own page says the programme exists to “limit the types of bank accounts that we accept for the disbursement of KDP royalties”, and then gives the date it started enforcing it:
“As of August 1, 2026, we have stopped making payments to KDP accounts that are using a PSP that is not participating in the Payment Service Provider Program, or have not completed the know-your-customer verification (KYC) with their participating PSP.”
Two kinds of account still get paid, in Amazon's words: “a participating PSP or an account which you opened directly with a deposit-taking bank”. The participating list had 46 providers on it when we read it on 12 October 2026. Payoneer, Wise and WorldFirst are on it. The page carries no revision date and no change log, so it can change without anyone being told.
This is not only a Nigerian problem, which is worth knowing because it means the forums are full of people working it out. An Australian author asked about the same email on Amazon's own forum in July 2026 — “But there are no details. I don't know which bank account this refers to” — and the Amazon moderator who replied pointed at these same two pages.
Read the error before you change anything
Amazon publishes the five messages it shows on a refused account, and they do not mean the same thing:
“We currently don't support this Payment Service Provider (PSP).” The provider behind your account is not on the list. Switching to a different account at the same provider will not help.
“Only accounts from deposit-taking banks are allowed.” Amazon has decided you cannot use a provider account at all, and wants an account you opened with a bank directly. Amazon's test for that is whether you could walk in and pay cash into it.
“Invalid bank details were added.” and “A new routing number or bank details may be required.” These two are about the numbers themselves. Re-read them against what your app shows, and check the name on the account matches your KDP account exactly.
“Your bank is requesting additional verification before we can issue payments.” Your provider has not finished its identity checks on you. That one is fixed in the app, not in KDP, and Amazon gives you 45 days from its email before it stops paying.
If your dollar account came from an app
A dollar account from a Nigerian app is not a bank. The app works with a bank in the United States, and that bank issues the account number and the routing number you were given. The routing number is the nine-digit code that tells the American payment system which bank the account sits at. When you paste those into KDP, what Amazon checks is the bank, not the app.
So the same app can work for one person and fail for another, depending on which bank issued their details. For example, at the time of writing this article, Amazon KDP does not accept Lead Bank accounts, but accepts Cross River Bank accounts.
Daya Borders offers multiple bank options, which means you can choose Cross River Bank for your KPD payments.
If you are on Daya Borders, under "Receive USD", just choose Cross River Bank, which is labelled in-app as the best option for Amazonkdp payments.
You get a new account number and routing number, both still in your own name.
Then go back to Getting Paid in KDP, remove the account Amazon refused, and add the new account.
Royalties you have already earned are not lost while you sort this out. They stay on your KDP account and go out on the next payment run once an accepted method is in place.
If your account is somewhere else
First find out which bank issues your details, because nothing else can be decided until you know.
Then ask your provider's support two questions, and get the answers in writing.
- Which US bank issues my account details?
- Can I move to a different one?
If the answer to the second is no, you need a different account before Amazon will pay you, and it is better to find that out now than after another month. We recommend Daya Borders.
The other way out is to stop using a dollar account for KDP and give Amazon a Nigerian bank account instead. That works, but it changes what you get: wire transfer, in naira, and nothing until you have cleared $100 on that marketplace. How to get paid by Amazon KDP in Nigeria sets out both routes with the published figures.
Three things to rule out before you blame the bank
It has to be a checking account. Amazon's payment page is blunt: it supports electronic payments to checking accounts and not to savings accounts. A dollar account from an app is normally a checking account, and the app will tell you which it is.
The name has to match. The account holder name has to be the same as the name on your KDP account. A middle name on one and not the other is enough. Amazon also warns that a pen name on the account will be rejected by the bank.
The tax interview has to be finished. Amazon will not set up a payment method until it is, and a half-finished one makes the payment page behave in ways that look exactly like a bank problem.
Frequently asked questions
- Why is Amazon KDP not accepting my bank?
Usually because of the bank or provider behind the account rather than anything you typed. Since 1 August 2026 Amazon only pays accounts from a provider on its participating list, or accounts opened directly with a bank. Read the exact error it shows you: Amazon publishes five and they point at different causes.
- What does “you've entered a bank account not able to receive KDP payments” mean?
It is the email Amazon sends when the account on your KDP profile is not one it will pay under its Payment Service Provider Program. It does not name the account. If you have more than one on file, KDP customer service can tell you which one is affected.
- Does Amazon KDP accept Lead Bank?
Amazon publishes no list of banks it accepts, so there is no official answer. In the cases Daya has looked into, details issued by Lead Bank were refused. That is what we have seen rather than a rule, and it may not hold for everyone.
- Is Cross River Bank the bank Amazon accepts?
It is a bank that has worked, not the only one that can. Authors whose details were refused on Lead Bank have been paid after switching the same account to Cross River Bank. Amazon does not publish the banks it accepts, so nobody outside Amazon can give you a definitive list.
- Can I change the bank behind my dollar account?
On Daya Borders, yes, between Cross River Bank and Lead Bank, in the app. On other providers, ask support which bank issues your details and whether it can be changed, and get the answer in writing before you rely on it.
- Will I lose royalties while I fix this?
No. Royalties you have already earned stay on your KDP account and are paid on the next cycle once an accepted payment method is in place. What you lose is time, which is why it is worth fixing before the next payment date.
