How to get paid from Remote.com in Nigeria
Remote pays Nigerian contractors in dollars only. Here is what each payout route costs on a $2,000 invoice, and which US account details Remote accepts.

Remote pays contractors in Nigeria in US dollars only, so the money needs somewhere dollar-friendly to land. Remote's own guidance says you can add US account and routing details from a provider, and Grey, Daya Borders, Cleva and Payoneer all issue them. Daya Borders takes 0% on dollars that land, against 0.8% capped at $10 at Grey.
The 0% has no cap, so it's the same on $200 and on $20,000. The route to avoid is a dollar payout to a Nigerian bank account, because Remote sends that by SWIFT and says the correspondent banks in the middle take $20 to $50 it can't control.
If you haven't settled on a way to get paid at all yet, start with how to get paid by international clients in Nigeria. The rest of this is Remote specifically: the routes it offers, what each one costs you, and what it asks for at tax time.
How does Remote pay a contractor in Nigeria?
Remote pays a Nigerian contractor in US dollars, and you choose where those dollars go. Remote lists two main ways to get paid: bank details added directly on Remote, where its payouts are powered by Wise, or Stripe Connect. Alongside those it accepts a virtual account, PayPal, and a USDC payout through Stripe.
Remote also picks the rail itself. It says it uses SWIFT "only when a local payment route isn't available", and that route selection depends on the currency, the destination country and the provider available. For dollars going to a Nigerian bank account, that means SWIFT.
| Route | What Remote says about it | What it means in Nigeria |
|---|---|---|
| Bank details added on Remote | Payouts are powered by Wise, for over 160 currencies | Dollars only, and dollars to a Nigerian bank go by SWIFT |
| Virtual account | You can add these accounts onto Remote as a normal bank account | US account and routing details from a Nigerian app go here |
| Stripe Connect | Nigeria is supported where the client bills in US dollars | Dollars only, and the first payout takes 7 to 14 days |
| USDC payout | Stripe supports only USDC, to a wallet on Base, Aptos or Polygon | Your client has to bill in US dollars for it to appear |
| PayPal | Remote publishes a guide to connecting a PayPal account | Check what PayPal lets a Nigerian account do before relying on it |
Remote's guide to connecting a PayPal account is on its help centre, and what PayPal itself allows in Nigeria is a separate question, covered in how to get paid from PayPal in Nigeria.
Can Remote pay you in naira?
No. Remote's own country list gives Nigeria one available payout currency, US dollars, and no local-currency option. That isn't true everywhere on the continent: the same table gives Kenya the shilling, South Africa the rand and Egypt the pound, each alongside dollars or euros.
There's a reason sitting behind it. Remote's bank payouts run on Wise, and Wise says you can't get US dollar account details if your address is in Nigeria. So the rail Remote uses for most countries can't give a Nigerian contractor a dollar account to be paid into, which is why the dollars either travel by SWIFT or land in details issued by somebody else.
What it means for you: you will be paid in dollars whatever you do, so the decision is only where those dollars arrive and what gets taken off on the way.
What does Remote charge you to get paid?
Remote doesn't publish a fee per withdrawal method. What it publishes is who carries the cost, and the answer depends on the currency your client bills in and the currency you take out:
- Paid in the same currency, to a local account in that currency: no fee for the contractor, in Remote's words, and you receive the full invoice amount.
- Paid across a border, in your own currency, into a matching local account: the client covers the FX and transaction costs.
- Paid in the company's currency, taken out in a different one: you cover the FX and transaction costs out of the funded amount.
- Dollars to a bank account outside the United States: Remote calls this "typically more expensive" and puts correspondent bank fees at $20 to $50, which it says are outside its control.
Remote also says it passes on only what its payment provider charges, and that the exchange rate is fixed when the invoice is created, which is when you pick the invoice currency and the currency you want to be paid in. On the Wise rail it applies its own Remote FX rate; on Stripe Connect it uses Stripe's.
Separately, your client pays Remote $29 per contractor per month for contractor management. That's their cost, not yours, but it's worth knowing when a client asks you to move platforms.
Can you use a Nigerian app's US account details on Remote?
Yes, and Remote says so itself. It has a help article on virtual currency accounts that tells contractors these accounts "provide local banking details for multiple countries", unlike traditional bank accounts, and that you can add them onto Remote as a normal bank account. Its walkthrough for one provider goes Withdrawal methods, then Add withdrawal method, then Add virtual account, then your account number and your ACH routing number.
The providers Remote names as examples are Wise, Revolut and Payoneer, and it publishes a step-by-step guide for Payoneer. No Nigerian provider is named on that page, so if you want the route Remote documents for you screen by screen, Payoneer is it. Everything Remote asks for is a US account number and an ACH routing number, which is what Daya Borders, Grey, Cleva, Raenest and Chipper Cash each issue from Nigeria. Check the receiving fee on whichever one you add before you hand Remote the details.
What does a $2,000 Remote payout cost on each route?
A $2,000 payout is a useful size because it shows the caps working. On a capped percentage the fee stops growing; on an uncapped one it keeps going; and on the SWIFT route the deduction has nothing to do with the provider you chose.

As of 30 October 2026, $1,000 converted to naira pays Daya Borders ₦1,369,850, Grey ₦1,365,570, Vban ₦1,363,000, Cleva ₦1,360,000, Chipper Cash ₦1,353,000 and Eversend ₦1,348,000, at each provider's quoted rate before its fees.

| Where you point Remote | What comes off $2,000 | What that fee is |
|---|---|---|
| Daya Borders | $0.00 | 0% on dollars that land, with no cap |
| Cleva | $5.00 | 0.8%, capped at $5 on its pricing page |
| Grey | $10.00 | 0.8%, minimum $2, capped at $10 |
| Raenest | $4.00 or $12.00 | $4 flat on one of its help pages, 0.8% capped at $12 on another |
| Chipper Cash | $15.00 | 0.75% with no cap, plus $1.50 a month |
| Payoneer | Up to $20.00 | Up to 1% when the payer uses ACH bank debit |
| A Nigerian bank, by SWIFT | $20.00 to $50.00 | Correspondent bank fees, in Remote's own words |
Two of those cells need a word of warning, and both are the provider's own pages disagreeing with each other. Raenest gives the dollar receiving fee as a flat $2 under $500 and $4 from $500 on its Nigeria fees article, and as 0.8% capped at $12 on its article about the USD account itself. Cleva's pricing page charges 0.8% capped at $5, while its own announcement of 13 January 2026 says deposits are flat, $1 under $300 and $3 above it, with no percentage charges at all. Confirm which applies in the app before you choose on cost.
The fee is also the smaller number. A published fee is printed on a page and you can check it before you commit, while the rate moves. On $2,000, one per cent of difference between two apps' conversion rates is $20, which is more than every fee in the table except the SWIFT route. So compare the naira you would actually receive, not only the fee line. The live comparison above is there for that, and the wider version of this arithmetic is in best USD account apps in Nigeria, compared.
Where does Daya Borders fit?
Daya Borders is a receiving account for people in Nigeria who get paid from abroad, and it gives you US account and routing details in your own name, which is exactly what Remote asks for when you add a virtual account. Daya Borders takes 0% on dollars that land, uncapped and with no conditions attached, and there are no fees today on anything else either. You can hold the dollars and convert when you choose, or send them to a Nigerian bank account, to another Daya Borders user, to an international dollar account or to a stablecoin wallet.
Against the rest of the table on a $2,000 Remote payout, that's $0 where Grey takes $10, Cleva $5 and Chipper Cash $15. Euros work the same way, at 0% on a real euro account, which matters if your client bills in euros rather than dollars.
Where Daya Borders isn't the pick:
- You want the route Remote walks you through on screen. Remote publishes a Payoneer guide and names Wise, Revolut and Payoneer as its examples.
- You want a virtual dollar card with it. Daya Borders has no card yet. Grey charges $5 to create one and $1 per load, and Cleva and Raenest charge $3.
- You need to be paid in a currency other than dollars or euros. Payoneer carries more than 70 currencies.
One thing to do on the day either way: Remote says the bank country you select has to match where the account actually is, and for US details issued by an app that means selecting the United States. That's the step people get wrong.
How long does a Remote payout take to arrive?
Remote processes a contractor payment the same day it receives the money from your client, and says most payouts arrive within two days of that. The parts that are slower are at the two ends:
- Your client's payment can take two to five days to reach Remote in the first place.
- On Stripe Connect, a first payout doesn't reach you until 7 to 14 days after Remote has the money. Later ones are faster.
- A SWIFT payout is quoted at two to three days once it leaves.
Remote gives two thresholds worth holding it to. If a payout hasn't been initiated within seven days of your invoice being approved, it tells contractors to check with the employer, because the money has probably not left your client yet. And if the invoice says paid out and nothing has landed after two business days, it asks you to contact Remote so it can investigate. For what normally decides the speed, see how long an international payment takes to reach Nigeria.
What tax form does Remote ask a Nigerian contractor for?
The W-8BEN. Remote's guidance is that contractors fill it out if they are not living in the United States but are working for a US-based company, and that it has to be renewed every year. Remote suggests the form during onboarding based on what you tell it.
The form has a line for your country of residence for tax treaty purposes, and Remote says to leave it blank if your country has no treaty with the United States. Nigeria isn't on the IRS list of countries with a US income tax treaty, so a Nigerian contractor leaves it empty and the standard 30% withholding on US-source income applies. No payout route changes that, and it's deducted before the money ever reaches Remote.
Frequently asked questions
- How do you get paid from Remote.com in Nigeria?
Remote pays Nigerian contractors in US dollars, into either a bank account or a virtual account you add yourself. Grey, Daya Borders, Cleva, Raenest and Payoneer all issue US account and routing details from Nigeria, which is what Remote asks for. Daya Borders takes 0% on dollars that land, with no cap.
- Can Remote pay in naira to a Nigerian bank account?
No. Remote's own country list gives Nigeria US dollars as its only payout currency, with no naira option, while Kenya, South Africa and Egypt each get their local currency. You can still send dollars on to your Nigerian bank yourself once they land, and you convert at that point rather than at Remote's.
- What is the cheapest way to receive a Remote payout in Nigeria?
On the published receiving fees, a Nigerian app beats a dollar payout to a Nigerian bank, because Remote puts the correspondent bank fees on that route at $20 to $50. Daya Borders takes 0% on a $2,000 payout, against $5 at Cleva, $10 at Grey and $15 at Chipper Cash. Compare the conversion rate too.
- Does Remote accept a virtual account instead of a bank account?
Yes. Remote publishes a guide to virtual currency accounts saying you can add them onto Remote as a normal bank account, and its Payoneer walkthrough asks for an account number and an ACH routing number. Select the United States as the bank country for US details, which Remote says has to match where the account sits.
- Why has your Remote payout not arrived?
Remote pays the same day it gets your client's money, and your client's payment can take two to five days to reach it. Remote's own rule of thumb: if nothing has been initiated seven days after your invoice was approved, ask your employer, and if the invoice says paid out and nothing has landed after two business days, contact Remote.
- Do you pay US tax on Remote earnings as a Nigerian?
Remote asks a non-US contractor working for a US company to file a W-8BEN and renew it annually. Nigeria has no income tax treaty with the United States, so the treaty line on the form stays blank and the standard 30% withholding on US-source income applies. Nigerian tax on the income is separate and is yours to file.
